Our History
The Leader's Edge™ was formed in 2000 by Molly D. Shepard to address the lack of women executives in the highest ranks of American companies. Before forming The Leader's Edge, Molly was the co-founder, Chairman, and President of Manchester Inc., one of the largest career development consulting firms. Prior to this, she was Regional Vice President for Hay Career Consultants, and before that, a Vice President of Diversified Search, a national executive search firm. She was also a Director of Admissions and a member of the executive committee of the Institute of Paralegal Training. At Manchester Inc., Molly began noticing that women were often excluded from the highest ranks of companies, and that junior women were not being encouraged to seek promotion within companies to senior-level positions. Her experiences led her to begin to look for the causes and solutions to this problem. Molly brought in a team of other experienced women executives to assist her in developing a consulting firm and coaching process that could address the unique issues preventing women from reaching senior-level positions. The Leader's Edge was formed in response to these issues. The design of The Leader's Edge programs and coaching process is grounded in not only the 25 years of experience of each of the principals of the program, but in research conducted by The Leader's Edge. The Leader's Edge Research has confirmed that women leaders run into unique issues and challenges as they enter the executive ranks, issues that may derail them or cause them to leave their companies. The Leader's Edge focuses on several skills in great detail: Communications Skills, Networks, Leadership Style, Mentoring and Balance. The Leader's Edge continues to grow, and we are bringing our expertise to major Fortune 500 companies, and getting serious results. We encourage you to read Success Stories and In the News to learn more about us and about the impact we've had.
