T.I.M.E – Using Your Time to Positively Impact a Career Transition
A Philosophy for Authentic, Personal Sales Behavior
by Shelley Potente, SVP, Client Services
Are you “in a career transition” or do you know someone who is? Undoubtedly, you do know someone who is not prepared or comfortable with this new phase in their life. Professionals in transition know that they need to be prepared to present their background, strengths, examples of success and future goals at the drop of the hat should an opportunity present itself. Networking, asking for feedback, discussing potential options and sharing the present situation can be perceived as “asking for help,” moving an individual from a perceived position of strength to one of “weakness.” Professionals in transition are concerned that they now have to “sell” themselves, making an emotional time even more challenging.

In this program, the participants are given a framework for understanding areas where they have a range of possibilities and more control than they believe they have. We will unpack the issues that they face in the workplace and offer a wider array of options to address them. > Read More

Seven Fundamentals for Coaching Executives: The Coachable Leader
by Peter J. Dean, Ph.D.
Over the past three decades, we have seen numerous examples in many companies of poor executive leadership such as Bernie Madoff, John Thain, and Ken Lay to name a few. We often cite the reason for this lack of leadership as a lack of individual character development within the executives. It is time for executives to step up and take a stand for bold, honest and positive evaluation of their leadership and character. Leadership is not about having a “corner office” or a lofty position title in an organization. Leadership is foremost about the executive’s character and the impact of his or her leadership behavior on the organization’s performance and constituents. Leaders who have proven their operational competence prior to arriving to the executive suite now have to demonstrate good character. The character of an executive is most visible by the people who look to them for leadership. What they look for is whether or not the executive is ‘coachable’–and by ‘coachable’ I mean being open to feedback from others with the goal to develop skills or make changes in order to be a more effective leader with a positive impact. > Read More

In November, The Leader’s Edge/ Leaders By Design partnered with Diversified Search, the largest woman-owned global executive search firm, to host an exclusive two-day event, Women On Board, at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia, Pa. More than twenty female leaders attended the program to learn how to get on and serve on a Board of Directors. Participants gained insightful tips which included building the skills necessary for non-profit and for-profit board of director positions, increasing their visibility and presentation skills. They had the opportunity to network with other senior women professionals from across the country and to learn from influential, prominent, and outstanding speakers. One executive who attended Women On Board commented, “I thought the program was a wonderful, impactful experience. The speakers were interesting, candid and savvy. The information was clear, practical, and spurred my thought process around strategy.” > Read More |
