What We Do

Leading Up for Women of African Descent

Women of African descent in corporate America face significant barriers that can stifle their career opportunities and suppress their potential to contribute at the top levels of their organization. In fact, a recent study shows that in Fortune 500 companies, only 1% of the 11% of corporate officer positions held by women are held by women who are of African descent. Although they encounter many of the same issues as other women, Women of African descent also face many distinct challenges—subtle, but crucial variations to the rules of the game and models of success that they must master if they are to navigate their way to positions of leadership.

The Leading Up for Women of African Descent program is specifically designed for high-potential women of African descent and includes 6 months of individual coaching and a three-day skills-building Retreat. The focus of this program is to support and develop outstanding women of African descent by providing them with the knowledge and skills that allow them to advance as successful leaders and contribute at the highest levels within their corporations. Experienced, diverse coaches work closely with participants through one-on-one sessions to evaluate and refine their leadership strengths and assets and to address their individual issues and concerns. Each phase of the program enables participants to examine and enhance their executive leadership style and presence, develop greater self confidence and capitalize on opportunities presented to them in the future.

The benefits of this unique program to the participating women include:
  • Providing a rich learning environment that enables the knowledge to be applied to a variety of business situations
  • Assessing the participant's leadership skills and style to determine how she can become an even greater contributor to her company's success and profitability
  • Providing a safe venue for participants to discuss the issues impacting sustained success for women of African descent
  • The opportunity to share experiences and perspectives with other senior women of African descent
  • Helping participants refine their communication styles, networking skills, and organizational political awareness
  • Access to a multi-cultural network of successful and influential women
